Acceptance
---------------------------------------------
Dear students,
I used to be in your place. I experienced the drama of wanting to be seen as cool or popular. I just wanted to be accepted. Sometimes I felt like I could never truly be myself without being outcast from my “friends.” Finding acceptance can be difficult and tiring, which is why I can really relate to the story of the ugly duckling.
“The Ugly Duckling” is a popular tale about a young and awkward bird that looks different than anything that he has ever seen before. Because of this, everybody treats him differently and kicks him out of their lives. This leaves him feeling alone and isolated. He searches and searches for acceptance while enduring extreme hardships. Will he ever find acceptance? How?
We will explore those questions and many more as we begin learning about “The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christian Andersen. (He wrote many different tales, including The Little Mermaid!) By the end of our explorations, we will be able to answer one important question. What does the word ‘acceptance’ mean to you?
Enjoy!
